These historic stilt houses were built in the early to mid-twentieth century about a mile out in the Gulf of Mexico in Port Richey, Florida. They were known as fishing camps since fishermen used them as a place to stay between mullet runs and to clean and pack their fish. One former mayor used one as a place to get away from it all. Hurricanes wiped out many of them and in 2005, there were 9 left. The building of new ones is no longer allowed.
