The Great Plains insisted on restoring our front gardens to grassland, so Justin Shaw brought a Bobcat and ripped out almost everything. It looked a lot better but still. We'll miss spring bulbs, vinca, Hyperion daylilies, coneflowers and daisies as one by one they highlighted parts of the season.

I like the seasonal parade of perennials too because I find it grounding to look out at my gardens first thing and see what's blooming, what's ready to bloom, and what's a ways off. There's a whole continuity of time thing that happens with perennials who have become old and trusty friends. You have created a wistfulness here that goes with the words.
