Waters of Alfama
Chafariz of El-Rei.
The district of Alfama has on its lands a group of thermal springs, moreover the district was named Alfama according to the Arabic (al-hamma, ) which means thermal springs.
Its warm waters are due to a fault that cuts the layers of Miocene. Throughout history, the waters of these springs have been channeled to supply the fountains of the city.
