The Alfama, a colorful sailors quarter, dates to the age of the Visigoth occupation, from sixth to eighth centuries AD. The Alfama was one of the few areas to survive the 1755 earthquake, and features one of the best viewpoints in Lisbon, the Rio Tejo and the Alfama neighborhood below.
