Picots, Knots and Loops Left

I read an article recently about the Baby Boomer dilemma of downsizing and their children declining the possessions they hoped to pass forward. I've been blessed with numerous family treasures in which my sons seem to have little interest. I decided to photograph many of them to include in my heritage album so they won't be forever lost. I'm working through Anna's ArtsyMemorabilia Class (lots of good ideas and helpful tips) and put together this spread.

Text: Great Grandmother Bailey and
her daughters made their own
clothes and linens. Mother told
me her Grandmother Bailey
ordered dress patterns and fabric from
New York City. They used the tatting
shuttle (below) to create the circular
lace trim (left and opposite page)
and lace trim on the pillow cases (below).
I remember my maternal Grandmother
giving me one tatting lesson and
realizing I was a bit too young, about 8,
for such fine motor skills. I continued
embroidery, but never returned
to tatting. Also pictured below is
Grandmothers crochet hook and
button box...cookie tin from Fred
Wolfermans...where we used to eat
lunch and purchase groceries.

This is a fabulous idea, and one that I have just put on my album list, because I, too, have been reading those articles. It's an elegant solution. Very much appreciated!

This is simply stunning Marnie! I love the colors you've chosen, and the still life arrangement to create your page. As a creative "baby boomer" I also have the memories of my family members sewing, crocheting, tatting, and the old treadle sewing machine. Your book is going to be filled with treasures.

I like how the eye is led to the center of the page with such detail and interesting images, then is drawn back out to the tin in the darker edge.

A wonderful idea! It is sad that this next generation is not interested in the past so much! At least not right now anyway, perhaps when they are older? A beautiful page for a beautiful memory!

Beautiful! Love the photos of the lace. I remember my grandmother tatting. I, too, treasure some of the things that I was able to gather from my parents and grandparents. But the younger generation doesn't seem to have any interest in them.
