I remember one of the films we watched in high school during the lessons French ... 'La guerre des boutons'. The book of the same name by Louis Pergaud has been filmed five times since its appearance in 1912. Yann Samuell took care of this fourth film adaptation; she appeared in the French cinemas one week before the fifth version. Just to say: this story appeals to children and adults of all ages.
The core is simple: there is a feud between the boys of Longeverne and Velrans, two neighboring villages in the French countryside. They lure each other out of the closet, snare traps, besiege each other and take out bad boys during nightly expeditions. The 'war' gets a new dimension when the boys discover the ultimate humiliation: cut the shirt buttons together. Then try to hide mum and dad that you have fought.
There must also be struggle in another area. Lebrac, the leader of the gang of Longeverne, has had to take care of the farm since the death of his father. His mother wants to send him to the factory to earn money, while the schoolmaster thinks he has talent to study at a serious school. And between all hostilities Lebrac must hide as well as possible that he is in love with his neighbor, Marie, who does not want to fight with the boys.
