School Yard

I was taught to read in grade school with the Dick and Jane books and since its that time of year, I thought I would bring those memories back, because Im sure a few people also learned to read with these books.

Notes: Using solid paper 5 as my foundation, I brought in the fotoblendz and clipped the photo to both masks in the set. I had run the photo through a few actions to give it an artsy look. I clipped the light leaks to the top photo layer and blended to Overlay. Underneath I added the layered fotoblendz at the left and top right and clipped the lined paper from APP Learn to those layers and added the paper texture to the left side. Then just above the foundation layer I added an artsy transfer to the left edge. On the right side the numbers overlay was placed and I scribbled in a couple of numbers with a PS brush.

The bike brushes were added to the left over the transfer and the vintage brush was added underneath and to the right of the photo, blended to Linear Burn. I found the Dick and Jane illustrations in Pinterest and added their dog Spot in the numbers. The apple was placed and I used brushes from APP Riant to the page along with the splatter brush.

The title and line was added and again with a PS brush I wrote out abc and the math addition. I finished the page with the dimensional, dirtying the red button with the stain brush.
Ah, good ole Dick, Jane and Sally! Millions learned to read through them. I had a student, struggling to learn how to read, no matter what modern approach I took to teach. After a break, he came back all excited about reading. I asked him what happened and he replied that his grandmother had bought him some books about these kids named Dick, Jane and Sally! A tried and true method! Love the design and flow of images !
