How to Put Emojis in Word Clouds

I figured out how to put emojis in a wordclouds.com word cloud . The emojis are treated as if they are words. My word cloud had a horizontal-vertical layout, so some of the emojis are rotated sideways.

There are probably more elegant ways to do this, but I went to emojipedia.org, found the emojis I wanted, copied them one by one, and pasted them into the word list (right) at wordclouds.com, which generated the word cloud on the left.

When Unicode gets updated and more emojis are added, your computer may not show the new ones. I know how to fix this problem only on a Mac. Mac users not running High Sierra need to download a font called emojione-apple.ttc from https :// github -dot- com/emojione/emojione-assets/releases/ (this is not a hotlink, note the spaces and the -dot-). Change .ttc in the file you downloaded to .ttf and drag the emojione-apple.ttf file into your ~/Library/Fonts folder (~/ stands for your home folder). Now when you go to emojipedia.org or other websites displaying new emojis, you should see them all.

Wordclouds.com isn't as elegant as my favorite word cloud generator, Tagxedo, but it doesn't require special plugins and so should work in any reasonably modern browser on any platform, including mobile devices. It will also save your word cloud to a png with a transparent background or an SVG.
