Journaling: noun: the study of conformation of the skull based on the belief that it is indicative of mental faculties and character.
I wanted and got for Christmas from my daughter a portable photography studio, which is a light box tent with LED lighting and different color backgrounds that I can attached to the back of it. I can place objects inside to photograph for easy extractions. As much as I love seeing extractions in layouts, I HATE doing them myself. Absolutely HATE it! I have such respect for the talented artists that do it on a regular bases. Anyway, today was the first time I used it, photographing a Phrenology head which usually lives on my bookshelf in the living room. I positioned and photographed it three different ways, having this layout in mind and extracted all three of them using the updated Select and Mask feature in PS CC 2018. Yes, it made it easier, especially since the head was isolated in the light box studio. However, it still took a glass of wine to accomplish it. This is the result from my heroic efforts.

Notes. After opening the template page, I brought in the first phrenology head, resizing and positioning. Then turning off all the layers in the template including the head, except for the main mask, I brought in artsy paper 1 for the background and clipped artsy paper 3 to the mask. Making the head layer visible again, I brought in a transfer underneath for the head to rest on. The transfer is on Color Burn. A large drop shadow was added to the head to make it pop off the page. The various stains on the page were recolored using colors from the kit.
In the framed masks I clipped artsy kardz and the other two heads I extracted in the top and bottom frames. The top head is blended to Multiply and the bottom head is blended to Linear Burn. I used the middle framed mask for journaling and placing the eye glasses. I used Blend Ifs and Color Burn on it.
I typed out the title and blended to Vivid Light.
Underneath all these layers I used an art stroke and overlays and various brushes adding in the dimensional elements along the way. On the red splatter brush towards the bottom right, I used a bevel and emboss. I think that covers the important stuff.
