For my Southwest Road Trip album
Journaling reads: There was water. And then there wasnt, at least for the Kaibab people of the Paiute Band of Indians. When the Mormons came in the 19th century, themselves victims of persecution, to create a safe haven for their polygamist wives, they built a fortress and walled off all the water from the main spring within it. With that water they were able to raise cattle and to farm...they even created a recreational spring pool. Learning on our tour about how the persecuted became the persecutors was fascinating. Its such dry desert, and only the water from the spring had allowed the native peoples to inhabit the area for the last 1,000 years. But without the water from the spring, crops couldnt be grown nor native life sustained. It was a story that held us all spellbound. Why wouldnt they share? Why so harsh? Our guide, a Mormon himself, lent authenticity and humanity to the story of this clash of cultures. We loved our visit to Pipe Spring, and the insight we were given into the complexity of human nature. --9/29/17

I spanned the templates across the gutter with a FotoBlendz that I took from another page in the set to squeeze in that one last photo. Everything else I left mostly as it was, extending the space for my journaling a bit, and then recoloring all the stains to match the photos. I used the wind style on the title and added cacti with the Southwestern brushes.
Love the B&W photo and the cacti brush off the page! I didn't have a use for (cacti) brushes until I saw your layout! Interesting effect!

Love the old photo and stories about the Mormons settling the West. Even this not-so-successful one.
