For 4 weeks starting in early September and going through the first week of October Mr. Squeak and I took a good, old-fashioned road trip. We threw a couple of suit cases in the back of the SUV, downloaded various state maps to his smart phone and off we went. We had no real plan, just a general one--start in Nevada and drive sort of clockwise around the Southwest--Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and finally Arizona before we headed home. We didn't see everything those great states have to offer, but we managed to see as many cities, national parks and roadside oddities as we could. The photo on this page was taken on that trip. In Colorado one place we visited was the Rocky Mountain National Park, and one of the hikes we did while there was the hike around Bear Lake. If you've been there you know that this is a very easy hike. We walked around this lake near the end of a long, long day of exploring, and with the sun hitting the nearby peaks just so, this gentle trail with its spectacular views was the perfect way to spend the evening.
