Journaling reads: Near the end, I might have acted like I didnt love it, but I actually miss it. It was the only vehicle we had when we were starting out as a couple. Shannon had to take me to work because I was *less* than great at driving a stick in the hills of Virginia. After a lot of patience, a few almost accidents, and killing it in it the middle of busy traffic a few times, I had the hang of it. Before long, I was a pro and actually loved driving a stick...it made me pay better attention, if nothing else. For the first year of our marriage, the truck was still our only vehicle. I took Shannon to work, then drove to school, & picked him up after he got off in the evening. We put a ton of miles on that poor truck. When we got a second vehicle in May of 2003, the truck finally had a moment to rest now & then. It quickly went from being our only vehicle to the one we only used sometimes. It got Shannon back and forth to work for 4 years after that. When he started his new job in May of 2007, he got the Vibe, and the truck sat on the driveway for months. We knew we should sell it, but it was hard to think about not having it anymore...after all, it was Shannons FIRST car. He had it for 11 years! When our friend, Chris, said hed buy it from us, we decided to let go. At least it would be in good hands, right? I almost cried while I was cleaning it out that last day. It was hard to say goodbye to the truck that carried us through the getting started years. That truck carried us from college kids in a Virginia apartment, to the house in Illinois that we rented and started our married life in. It moved us into a new apartment when Lily was born, and then finally into our first home just two short years ago. Some of the features I will totally miss forever are:
1. My DMB, Grateful Dead, and turtle window stickers.
2. That oh-so-annoying rattle the back bumper made at stoplights.
3. The beep-beep-beep the CD player made when the truck shut off.
4. The cheesy 8-ball gear shifter & matching lock tops.
5. The crooked front bumper that made the headlights uneven.
