These are the famous cherry trees in Branch Brook Park. When I was a kid, there was no fancy sign and no Cherry Blossom Center, there was just the trees. They are double cherry trees, full of blossoms like pom poms. On a blue-sky day like we had here in early May, they are just glorious. There are all ages of trees, perhaps some as old as I, perhaps some more newly planted. In case this is not obvious from the pictures, I greatly enjoyed visiting the cherry blossoms, remembering a simple time long ago when we lived nearby in Newark and grandma would walk to the park to pick dandelions, and there may have been a Sunday or two where we made a special trip to the park to see the trees, over 50 years ago.
