Carruthers-Moore Generations

I have always loved this photo of a very young Moore family. I never had the pleasure of meeting my grand-parents on my mothers side, and cherish each and every photo I have of them. They had 6 kids total, and this was taken shortly after they moved to Columbus, Georgia. My mom is the baby being held by my great-grandmother, whom, I also never met. After Adam and Flossie Mae married, they moved from the North Carolina area and lived in Texas and Georgia prior to moving back to Gastonia, N.C. I love that this photo shows 3 generations of Carruthers women, my great-grandmother Katherine, my grandmother Flossie Mae, and my Mom Margaret. This photo was taken in 1930, and all in the photos have passed on, except for my mom.

The Process: I began with a solid Kardstock from AP Generations, I added another Kardstock, and applied blend mode Multiply to it to allow the slight texture of the paper to show through. I added the photo, and placed the thin white frame. I then masked out the entire photo, painting back in just what I wanted to show, using a watercolor brush at low opacity, so I could slowly add portions of the photo bit by bit. I duplicated the photo and placed it on blend mode Vivid Light. I wanted the stairs to seem to come out of the frame, so I then masked out a portion of the thin white frame. I then added the old thick cardboard frame from AP Generations, placing in under both the white frame and the photo layers. I masked out the center portion of all four side of that frame, using a soft brush. I added the wordArt, and the elements, along with a variety of brushes from AP Generations, changing each to a soft sepia tone. I added the edge overlay and then added the ScriptTease brush work on top of both the photos and lower frame, but under the white frame. I added the names of the people in the photograph. I added a thin striped paper from AP Sea Life, and changed its color to soft brown, and then placed it on blend mode Darker Color. I applied a layer mask, and then slowly began painting back portions of this striped paper back in. I then added the brick transfers from AP Home, softening them up a bit by reducing their opacity just a touch, and then added transfers from AP Wonderful, to the left edge of the layout, placing it on blend mode Multiply, and then carefully masked out any texture, brick, and spatters, etc., from that area, to make it look like another layer of paper. I added the loopdaloop changing the color of the staples and gem.

***thanks for looking***
You're so blessed to have this picture. I love how you scrapped it and your explanation of who everyone is.

Great extension of the bricks in the photo onto the background paper. In years to come your family will be so happy you have given the story along with the photo.

an exceptional photo. i love how you've used the brick in the background to go with the brick in the photo.

Wonderful photo and story. I love how you brought the soft blue into this heritage photo, with the addition of the reddish tone in the BG paper (bricks), that ties together with the sepia and bricks in the picture. The title is perfect.

gorgeous, love the layering of the photo and the combi of the bricks with the Wonderful transfers . Into my favourites!

A stunning page Joan! Great texture and beautiful colors that match perfect together, I love the old picture!
