Notes for Photoshop Element 14
Because I really liked the papers in this Mini-Palette, I decided to use them at the top of the layer stack instead of as background, so piled them on as overlays with different blending modes. For the background I used my son's mountain panoramic (cropped), then blended in his selfie with inverted masking. I added the title and word art next, just to stake out the spacethe word good is from the Mini-PaletteI applied a chrome layer style to complement the look of my son's helmet.
For the overlays, I used Artsy Paper #2 on multiply mode, with bits masked away where the paper overlapped my son's face. On top of that I dragged in Artsy Paper #1, also on Multiply mode, because it picked up the teal in my son's jacket. Again I masked out what I didn't want with layer masksmostly on the right, where the paper brought in green tones I didn't want. This was followed by Artsy Paper #3 on color dodge mode, again with parts layer-masked out.
Then I went to the town with the brushes, transfers, and overlays in the Mini-Palette. I think I used most of them. I love blending and layer-masking and I definitely indulged myself here.
Because my son's selfie brought back memories of him as a kid, I drew in some mountains with the pencil tool as a last touch, because that's just something he would do and I liked the whimsical look, which is a big part of my memories of my son as a child.
Lastly, I added a few Snow Sprinklez for good measure, the button (recolored) and Threadz from the Mini-Palette, and a silvery sparkle overlay.
