Big Owie!

At the time, I wanted nothing to do with a photograph of my dds black eye. Now I look at it and it brings back such comical memories of how my dd handled this injury, and it is this I remember most. I am now learning that it is important to document most all of life events, although amidst these difficult times, it can still be difficult. I hate putting too much text on a page, but I am also big on journaling the whole story, so although I tried to trim it down, it is still a lot.

Journaling reads: Every mothers nightmare is to have their child get hurt. You baby proof the house, putting locks on the drawers and cabinets, taking out furniture with sharp corners, locking up harsh cleaners and medicines, and hope nothing else happens that you cannot think of preventing. No matter how hard you try, things can happen, as we found out. Rachel, at 3 and a half, walked into the bathroom to get a toy, and came running out holding her eye - and said she bent over and hit the tub. Upon examination, her eye was turning purple and was swollen shut. We called the doctor who said it was probably fine, but to bring her in. To my surprise, Rachel was mesmerized by it. Staring at herself in the mirror, she kept asking me how long it would stay that color and if she would ever be able to open her eye again. She was not at all bothered by it. She walked around beaming with a grin from ear to ear. As we walked into the Doctors - not only did I hope everything would be okay with her eye, but I was also hoping no one would think that I had harmed her, and feared that they would try to take her away from me. She, on the other hand was bouncing around, all proud of that eye. She wanted to make certain that everyone saw it.

Thank heavens, everything was fine, but I still was terrified to take her out in public, thinking everyone would think I beat her. I never even took a photograph of her little booboo - it was just too horrible. This was taken by her daycare lady, Debra, because she saw how proud Rachel was of it, and thought she would want something to remember it by. Rachel winces when she looks at it now. She told me mom, I remember that. I was picking up a green block and hit my eye on the tub - I guess I was pretty un-coordinated. I asked her if she remembered how proud she was of it, and she said yeah - it was the coolest. I then thought that if I was scrapping back then, I would have surely taken a shot or two of it, but I think I would be too devastated to scrap it right away!

What a big girl she was to handle that so well. It's hard for mom's tho. You've made a beautiful page with the memory.

LOVE your story (knowing that it end upp well!).
Awesome placement of the arrow and great layering right-top-corner.

What a wonderful story. My DGD got a shiner a few months ago...kids chasing each other...a fall right into the coffee table...purple-green-black-blue. My DD photographed the evolution of the colors, and I scrapped a page. Her big sister was only interested in putting eye shadow on the other eye so they would match!!!!! ROTF

wonderful story telling. that must have hurt! love the purple color of the background and the great use of the arrow.

It is so hard to see your children get hurt!! You have done a great documentation here for her!! Wonderful journaling!!

Ouch! Funny, how now we are glad we have these shots. Perfect use of the blended purples.

sorry i am cracking up laughing because i know exactly how you felt but also can understand how proud Rachel was. fabulous journalling and art - horrific injury

Love how you documented what happens to all of us during childhood at one time or another, but more of a testament to her upbeat attitude, hope she is signed up for med. school!
