Process
To complete this page I chose my favorite artsy background paper and a couple of recent photos of my son playing t-ball.
The first photo of my son's mitt I clipped to a transfer that was angled to match the lines in the background paper and positioned coming off of the page. I used a soft light blending mode on the transfer and luminosity on the photo itself to get the monochromatic effect.
Then I extracted the photo of my son batting using a layer mask--first because there were distracting objects in the background, but also to really bring the shot to life. Once extracted I applied a heavy shadow to my photo at -45 degrees and applied the luminosity blending mode to pick up the blue tone in the background. I also dialed back the opacity just a touch just to soften the image up a bit.
I placed the button at the end of the artstroke to symbolize the ball and to add a sense of movement to the page.
And then I created a custom linear gradient with the colors from my background and applied it to the word art on the left side of my page. Finally I applied the difference blending mode to the layer to really make the colors in the word art pop.
