Font/Aubrey Regular

Process: Extracted figures and merged with a gray textured background paper; then clipped to Verdure FotoBlendz clipping mask; merged and duplicated composite; applied color burn blending mode to top version (reduced opacity by 50%) and placed on Vie Artsy Paper 4. Clipped Vie Artsy Paper 4 to FRIEND text and added drop shadow. Recolored Home brush, duplicated and played with blending modes and hue adjustment until satisfied. Finished with elements, glow, texture, and text.

Journaling: My mother, Grace, (far right) named my youngest sister, Martha, after her best friend (standing next to her in the photo). One day she crossed the street to see if Martha could play and the girls mother simply said she was gone. Upon garnering a bit more information, my grandmother explained to my mother that her friend had died from a disease. My mother never knew the exact cause of death. It was such a great loss for a sweet little girl who loved to play dolls with her neighbor. Her tomboy sisters shared no interest in dolls (far left, Norma and next to her, Alice). I dont think my mother had much help in grieving that loss--no school psychologist in those days. Circa 1932
