annaLift--Iceworm Gulch

Another page for my Alaska travel album. I focused on text elements and texture with this lift.

Supplies:
Autumn Rust Artplay Palette: http://www.oscraps.com/shop/ArtPlay-Palette-Autumn-Rust.html
Compass: Arrive Artplay Palette: http://www.oscraps.com/shop/ArtPlay-Palette-Arrive.html
Button (recolored): Holly Artplay Palette: http://www.oscraps.com/shop/ArtPlay-Palette-Holly.html
Autumn Rust Artsy Transfers: http://www.oscraps.com/shop/ArtsyTransfers/

Process:
Iceworm Gulch had a really mystical feeling, and I wanted to show that, but I was working with two separate dismal photos. My first step was to blend them into a photomontage to portray the sign and the gulch as one image, but, since the photos did NOT play nicely together, I sought help from my paperie, going through all my papers to find backgrounds that I could use as bridges for blending the two photos. I finally chose two (artsy paper 3 and solid paper 5) from the Autumn Rust palette, blending them together on multiply mode and then using inverted masking to blend the images into the paper.

I added the title, quote, and journaling and then pulled in transfers and overlays from the artplay palette on various blending modes just to add some light (they really were dismal photos). I did the embellishments lastthe compass is on plain old normal blending mode, but since I dragged it under a bunch of layers on other blending modes, it sort of self-blended in a nice way. Then I recolored a button to match the sign. After I sat with the layout a bit, I tucked in an Artsy Transfer, just for a finishing touch.
This place sounds intriguing? My husband says I must see Alaska some day, I do love scenery, but it must be on their day of warmest summer ;-)

Love the quote and the text elements, so effective, and how cool is it to pop something, perhaps accidentally, between other layers and get something wonderful :)

Beautiful! Love the texture and color! Love the journaling and title work!

fabulous layout, love how the perspective and letting draws you into the design.

A magical en mysterious page Laura, for sure you are a good story teller, I love the blending and texture, the photo of Alaska is so beautiful, for me you're successful!

I love this name! It just says so much In two words. We always drive through Fancy Gap in WV and I have that same feeling. Beautiful page.

I love the name too! So worthy of a page of its own. We have "Slumgullion Pass" and I love it, probably named for the stew the miners ate.

fantastic blending of the two photos! love the journaling! love the emotion of the page!

Well you certainly succeeded in your goal in blending a couple of dismal photos together and giving them a mystical feel. I loved reading your process notes. The use of papers and transfers and blending modes made everything come together beautifully. Perseverance.
