Ive decided I like living on a hill. We thought Carmel Valley would be an interesting place to explore, but when I saw those high hills all around me, I felt confined and
claustrophobic. On a hill one looks down on things, on the buzz of activity below, on the cows on the opposite hills, and as they begin to appear and graze, we are reminded that winter is approaching. I like seeing the sun edge over the eastern hills and light the valley, and I like seeing the sun set and cast the alpen glow on the far hills,
reflecting brilliantly on the windows facing. I long for the beach, for the long stretches of sand being washed by waves, for the shore birds racing away from the waves while poking in the sand for crabs, for the quiet...I bet they dont need leaf blowers at the beach. But for now, this is where I live, and I am fortunate to be living on this hill and gazing on the golden hills in the late afternoon.
