Scrapolina, to answer your question about blending. I duplicated the photo, used Find Edges in the Filter Gallery, changed the blending mode to screen and then masked out what I did not want to show.

This brings back wonderful memories of our family sitting in front of the fireplace before Christmas, and remember hoping for snow on Christmas day. So warm and cozy. Love this.
