In my youth, there were many days when all I wanted to do was get out of the house by myself. What is a pre-teen to do when she is too young to drive? I walked a lot. About a mile downhill from our house, almost to Rainier Avenue, I found this peaceful wooded stream. I loved climbing over rocks and logs in my secret place. We recently returned to find that it was discovered. It is now Lakeridge Park, and was once called Dead Horse Canyon. Even back in the 50s this is not something a mother would have wanted her daughter to be doing alone. But I never encountered another person, and I never got hurt. The hard part was walking uphill the whole way home!
