Journaling reads: While visiting my parents in Alabama, we were surprised one morning to find 3 puppies running around the back yard. My mom told us it was not uncommon as people saw the big house on the dirt road, and figured maybe their unwanted pets might have a chance. It made me so angry that anyone could do this. We never felt we should get a dog, living in California, but we really fell for the omega puppy - always being picked on by the other two. She seemed to need us more than the other two would have.
It took Rachel two days to come up with a name - she decided on Cricket, because she said the dogs were hungry when they came upon us, and Rachel found her eating a cricket. Although she played with all the puppies, she carried Cricket around when she saw her getting tired and lagging behind. It so warmed my heart to see her cuddling this little puppy, telling me how happy she was, because she said she never thought we would get a dog.
We would have taken all three if we could have, but one dog was a big step for a home that had been without a dog for about 15 years. We made arrangements to fly her back with us to California.
