Aunt Vi was anything but conventional. Born in the last year of the 19th Century, she never married, and she marched to a different drummer until the day she died. In the 1930s she left tiny Bancroft, Nebraska and followed her brother, Cliff, and his wife, Rilla, to L.A. Vi claimed she was a M***age Therapist to the Stars?, including Tyrone Power and John Wayne. She may have embellished her career a wee bit but her grateful nephews certainly appreciated her dubiously acquired chiropractic skills whenever they suffered a sports injury! Cliff died in 1947, so Vi followed kin to Ft. Collins, Colorado. There she tended to her Aunt Tillie (Gatzemeyer) Hale. Vi spent several years on her own in Ft. Collins after Tillie died. She finally returned to Nebraska, settling in Fremont near her sister, Ruth (much to Ruths dismay!). Vi died in 1985 and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft with several generations of her Gatzemeyer ancestors. She was a devout woman, but nonetheless a true quirk of art
