Journalling:
Outback South Australia has many old stone cottages that dot the landscape. They can tell a tale of sorrow, sadness and loss or maybe just leftovers from a bygone era which has led to greater success. It would always have been a hard, hot (or cold) life in these early homes but they would have been better than the old wattle and daub buildings which were made where the stone was not so readily available as in many other states of Australia!
Wow...those would be so neat to see in person!!! :cloud9:
There are a lot of them in various states of disrepair and many are in very remote places so it is hard to see how they eked out an existence. It would have been a lonely lifestyle for many wives, I think. And without fans and refrigerators at the least in 40C it would have been incredibly hot. So driving past in an airconditioned car is the best way to see them.:fan: . It is actually heading for 40C here today so thank heavens for air con!

Man, I am SO thankful that I am not having to live in those conditions...we are very fortunate!!! Have you actually gone into any of them before and taken photos?

Oh my goodness...that is around 104 degrees...yikes!! Stay cool...I would send you some of our freezing air, if I could!! :lol23:

I loved reading about the cottages... I have never been to Australia (Sydney Airport does not count), but it has been on my bucket list for ages. Past is rarely as pretty and as we tend to make it, we often romanticize the bygone era, but I imagine that even in those times, some people were happy and content... lots of people around the world live in 40 degree heat without the aircon even today.

You are right! I am going soft in my old age...:hammock:

I haven't ventured into any as they are mostly a distance from the road and on private property. I also don't usually have the footwear on that is appropriate for venturing into the associated long grass as snakes are often a risk to be aware of.:mowing:
Today is predicted to be 20C so a lot cooler...
