Journaling reads: Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Genesis 2:18 (ESV)
The only thing in creation that God declared as “not good” was that Adam was alone. God created mankind as social creatures (for the most part). God had created male and female of the animals, so he created woman as a counterpart for man. Without woman, mankind would no longer exist. Women are created for being a helper to men. We are “fit” or “suitable” for him. Does this mean that every man and woman should be married? No. This verse just sets the standard for most people in most contexts. A wife is the helper suitable for her husband. So, what does this mean for me as a Christian wife?
Aa a “suitable” wife, I am compatible with my husband in many ways—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. But this doesn’t mean that Mark and I are the same in everything, only that we “fit” together in harmony. We should complement one another. I am different but complete him in every way.
Lord, help me to always bring love and harmony (beautiful music), not discord, to our relationship, I pray.
