In the Bible, "sustain" means to uphold, support, or maintain. It is often used to describe God's care for his creation, people, and covenant promises. God sustained Joseph through the trials he went through because He had a purpose in Joseph’s life for him to become the second in command under Pharaoh. He was able to save his people from starvation. What his brothers (and others) meant for evil, God meant for good!
